50% of cases of erythema multiforme are idiopathic.
Secondary causes include:
- drugs
- penicillin
- sulphonamides
- phenytoin
- carbamazepine
- ACE-i
- barbituates
- NSAIDs
- thiazides
- infections
- mycoplasma
- herpes
- orf
Management is to treat the underlying cause and supportive treatment.
