MRCP revision battle 56.7: Nematodes = roundworms

2 main groups to consider for MRCP:


1. Strongyloides stercoralis
  • AKA threadworm
  • acquired percutaneously
  • causes migratory urticaria = larva currens
  • presents with itching
  • if it reaches lungs -->pneumonitis
  • treatment: mebendazole

2. Toxocara canis
  • caused by ingesting eggs from soil contaminated with dog poo
  • treatmet: mebendazole
